The book presents an intellectual history of VD Savarkar, the most controversial Indian political thinker of the 20th century and a key architect of modern Hindu nationalism.

Vinayak Chaturvedi is Professor of History at the University of California, Irvine. He is the author of Peasant Pasts: History and Memory in Western India (UC Press, 2007) and the editor of Mapping Subaltern Studies and the Postcolonial (Verso, 2000) and The Pandemic: Perspectives on Asia (AAS, 2020).
Chris Moffat is Senior Lecturer in South Asian History at Queen Mary University of London and the author of India’s Revolutionary Inheritance: Politics and the Promise of Bhagat Singh (CUP, 2019).
