Help and Support

General Support

  1. Your Advisor: first point of contact for help with your university life. Contact them by email to book an appointment. Your adviser and their email address are listed on your MYSIS record.
  2. School of History Student Support Team: If you have a general question please email us, live chat with us or reach out to us using the methods described on this page.
  3. Directors of Student Support: If you need an extra person to help outside of your advisor please contact Virginia Davis.
  4. More Sources:

Crisis Support

  1. Emergency numbers: 999 for life or death emergencies and 111 on your phone for urgent health advice. 020 7882 3333 if you need campus emergency team.
  2. Helplines: Samaritans (crisis phone/chat support), Student Minds (tailored mental health support for students) and search for your local council’s mental health support provision. Tower Hamlets for example has a 24 hours crisis line.
  3. Mental Health First Aiders: A full list is available here or contact the History Student Support Team to talk directly and if you wish they can put you in touch with others.
  4. Talk it out: Reach out to friends, siblings, loved ones and your course mates.

Your Wellbeing

  1. Sleep: Read the NHS How to get good sleep guide and the Sleep Council‘s resources.
  2. Connection: Be the one who reaches out and use real talk to discuss real things going on. You’d be surprised how many people respond well to this. There’s still time to join societies, contact old friends and meet new ones.
  3. Exercise: Use the Couch to 5k or other similar apps to get into a routine of exercise that can improve your mood. Move around when studying to different places at home and at university if you need study space.
  4. More Wellbeing Resouces:
    • Advice and Counselling: There’s an amazing section on the Emotional Wellbeing here.
    • Local NHS services including your GP can do social prescribing including arts, mindfulness and many other well-being activities.
    • Togetherall is the student mental health platform QMUL subscribes to. Use it to do a course or connect anonymously.

Here to Help

If you have any questions about your studies, the School of History Office is available for students online 10am–12 noon and 2pm–4pm daily from Monday–Friday.

The Taught Programmes Team is made up of Charlotte, Matt and (from December 2021) Shima. During the first few weeks of the term you might also find yourself speaking to one of the other members of the Office team. You can find out more about us on our staff web page.

Contacting the Office

We are not currently able to offer drop-in visits to the School Office.  To support you as quickly as possible we have set up a number of ways to contact us virtually.

We hope that these will allow you to get a quick answer or solution.  If we are not able to solve your problem online we will arrange a face-to-face slot with you.

Email

If you have a question about how your degree works, your timetable or your module enrolments, please email us on history-taught-programmes@qmul.ac.uk.

If you have a question about support, please email your advisor in the first instance. If you are unclear as to who your advisor is, or you have not yet had a response please email history-student-support@qmul.ac.uk and your email will dealt with by one of our support team.

If you have a question about QMplus or other online systems used in teaching, you can email history-elearning@qmul.ac.uk.

For general questions or issues with your username and password, or with access to services like email, calendar and the QMUL App, we are unlikely to have the kind of access needed to help.  These kinds of questions should in the first instance be directed IT Services (ITS).  You can find lots of information about IT at QMUL on the IT Services webpages.  You can find out how to contact the helpdesk directly on the ITS Support page.

Book A Call

You can book a time for us to call you using MS Teams using our booking page.  This will automatically create a booking in your Teams calendar. You can find out how to install and use Teams here.
