[M2L0] Module 2: Encoding Text in Digital Form and Exploring Digital Images

This module is an introduction to two important modern technologies used to work with text and images in digital humanities: TEI for encoding text and IIIF for exploring images. The material is split into two parts and each part should take around two hours to complete.

By the end of this module you will:

  • Understand what is meant by ‘text encoding’;
  • Understand the purpose and form of TEI-XML (you won’t be asked to mark up any text yourself);
  • Understand what is meant by ‘IIIF’ and learn about its advantages;
  • Use a IIIF viewer to find and compare digital images from a range of online sources.
